Lotus Notes - Security

  • Your Lotus Notes ID file contains your account "profile". Always keep a backup copy of your ID file on a CD (or other media) or your home directory. Be sure to update the file if you change your password or if your name or organization changes.
  • If you want to write your password on a slip of paper be sure to save it in a secure place.
  • Do not share your password with others.

Improving Your Lotus Notes Security:

Malicious users can embed a virus in an email in the Lotus Notes Client. To prevent possible damaging code from running on your computer you must do the following:

  • Log into Lotus Notes (Client ONLY not Web) and open your Inbox
  • Click on the Actions menu and choose Improve Security.
  • You will receive a confirmation message. Click OK to continue.

You must do the above on all workstations that Notes is installed on. You only need to run "Improve Security" once on each workstation.

After you run the "Improve Security" feature, if an unauthorized user attempts to run a program on your computer you will prompted by an "Execution Security Alert" message.

At that point click "Abort" (DO NOT RUN THE PROGRAM!), and immediately notify the Lotus Notes Administrators (Notes Admin@notes.cc.sunysb.edu).
