Services Available for BlackBerry

E-mail: The BlackBerry device provides a wireless extension of your e-mail that allows you to send and receive messages at you convenience. BlackBerry technology has an "always connected" framework with a push technology that sends your e-mail messages to your device without a cable. No need to synchronize your device with your desktop anymore. A great feature is the ability to view attachments in most of the popular file formats.

Organizer: Your BlackBerry has the capability of becoming your mobile office by providing you with your calendar, address book, memo pad, and tasks right at your finger tips.

Browser: BlackBerry gives you quick access to your Web pages while on the go.

Instant Messaging: BlackBerry has its own instant messaging program which is great for users that need to contact each other with quick short messages.

Getting Started

  • When you first purchase a BlackBerry, make sure that you have made arrangements with your service provider (Verizon, Sprint, Nextel, T-Mobile, Cingular, etc.) to activate a BlackBerry Enterprise Data Plan.
  • Next, you will need to purchase a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) license from TelNet. You must e-mail TelNet to purchase the license. The cost of the license is $78 for the first year and $25 for yearly upgrades. When contacting TelNet, please include the account number that will be charged.
  • Once you have purchased a BES license, you need to activate the device on the BES server. Client Support assists West Campus users in activating the device and accessing their Lotus Notes e-mail. The TelNet Service Desk answers HSC (East Campus) questions about BlackBerries (631) 632-8568.
